Welcome to Hirst Wood Nursery School & Children’s Centre. We value confidence, independence and creativity and experiential learning through purposefully planned play. Everyone at Hirst Wood is valued and every child deserves the very best education. We are inclusive in all that we do and our learning community is based on the celebration of both similarities and difference and we place high importance on respecting each another. There are no invisible children here.
We have an amazing learning environment that includes a wilderness garden where children have the opportunity to experience the Forest School. We offer a range of enticing and motivating experiences for children both indoors and outdoors to develop their sense of awe and wonder that enables them to take pleasure in exploring and investigating the world around them.
We have lots of exciting new developments this half term. Nursery 3 Hawthorn has opened and we warmly welcome Ann as our new teacher, and Angie, Nursery Nurse. We are delighted that they bring a vast knowledge of high quality early years education to our already fantastic team of colleagues. We have made some great changes to our main outdoor area that now incorporates a Forest School area to enjoy fires and den building. There will be changes being introduced as we further develop our longstanding commitment to the mantra that ‘outdoor learning is in our name’.
We will shortly be looking at our April 2019 intake so if your child is 3 between now and 31st March 2016 do come and look around the Nursery. We offer the free 15 NEF hours in a variety of ways and also the 30 hours for eligible families. Our provision is not only led by very experienced, enthusiastic teachers and Nursery Nurses but alongside this we also have a before and after school club called 'The Sunshine Club' which offers paid for additional sessions. Please make an appointment to come and have a look around our fantastic purpose built historical building in the beautiful world heritage site of Saltaire. Every day is an open day – come and take a look.
We hope that you find our website informative and easy to use. Don't forget that we have Google translate at the top right hand side. Please let us know if there's anything you would like us to add to this website.
Also our coffee mornings will now have a curriculum area focus where parents will have the chance to look at how a particular area of learning is promoted in the environment. There will be juice and biscuits in the classrooms, with parents having a chance to look at the outdoor environment. They can then have tea or coffee in the parents room and will be provided with a handout should they wish to know more.
